Sony Computer Entertainment will release "PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) (PSP-3000 series)" in Japan/Asia, North America and Europe starting mid-October.
Inheriting the basic design and functionality of the current model, the LCD screen on PSP-3000 has been improved, and the image quality is dramatically enhanced. Users will be able to use the new model anywhere with anti-reflection technology, including well-lit places such as outdoors or directly under fluorescent lights. In addition, since built-in microphone comes standard, no attached microphone are needed when users play games which supports microphone functionality or using communication programs such as Skype™.
In autumn 2008, the new online service will be introduced in which PSP® users can play PSP® titles supporting ad hoc mode each other over the Internet through PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®). Along with the new ad hoc features, SCE has introduced the new PlayStation®Store for PSP® systems, and this way allows users easily to access and download new content from their PSP® systems without their PS3® systems or PCs.
In Japan, the release date of PSP-3000 will be October 16. Three colors will be available: "Piano Black", "Pearl White", and "Mystic Silver". Additional color variations are planned to be released as the user base expands. The recommended retail price (RRP) of PSP-3000 base model will be 19,800 yen including tax, and "PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) Value Pack" will also be available at a RRP of 24,800 yen which will come bundled with a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark2), an original PSP pouch, a hand strap and a cloth to meet the ever-expanding PSP® user scene and preferences such as gaming, watching video and listening to music.
Although this is not a new hardware launch, thanks to the major upgrades, it will become more attractive for users with improved functions that make users easier to enjoy the new models than ever before.
